Graaff-Reinet, the "Gem of the Karoo", is best known as a tourist
attraction due to its spectacular location in a bow of the Sundays
River and surrounded on three sides both by imposing mountains as
well as by the Camdeboo National Park.
As a further attraction, the older part of town is filled with some
of the most wonderful examples of South African architecture,
ranging from the Karoo variants of the Cape Dutch Georgian style to
Victorian and Edwardian colonial buildings as well as a number of
museums and art galleries displaying the rich culture and history of
the town.
For tourist information, there is an information office in the heart
of town to assist the visitor.
For all the South African and overseas tourists who flock to
Graaff-Reinet the town offers a plentiful variety of accommodation
with guest houses of great luxury to B&B's and backpacker budget
accommodation in town as well as guest farm accommodation and guest
houses in the surrounding countryside.
Apart from its tourist attraction, Graaff-Reinet is also a major
business centre being the market town for a large area of the Karoo.
Many businesses provide support for farms while other business
produce and market numerous Karoo products.
